Michelle Loewinger
Always enthralled by the arts, fashion, and design, Michelle’s passion for painting blossomed when she moved to Belgium in 2009 to assist her husband, Howard Gutman after President Obama selected him to serve as the United States Ambassador to Belgium. “When we moved to Belgium, I was surrounded by the arts, fashion and European design,” Michelle explains, “and I wanted to share the beauty that we see or that we wear everyday– the color and, in some sense, the simplistic beauty of everyday life, with others.”
Michelle studied painting first in Europe and then in the US and her pop art of iconic images began being featured in solo gallery exhibitions and European gallery representation. "In a fast-paced, culturally evolving world- my art seeks to immortalize the grand & subtle iconic moments, we experience in everyday life. Driven by a slow process and fascination of iconic imagery, I want my paintings to act as time capsules, for generations to come."
Continuing to divide her time among Miami, Washington DC and Brussels, Michelle’s pursuit of iconic imagery through pop art took its latest turn with a focus on the pop art of giant iconic sneakers, starting with the 6 by 5 foot Original Chuck Taylors and similar size Air Jordans. In addition to the paintings at this year’s Context Art Fair, Michelle has already received commissions from a sport team for the sneaker of a legendary player to be displayed in the arena, a national international music star and sneakerheads worldwide. And, a lover of luxury women’s shoes, Michelle has now also begun to meet requests for giant luxury shoes (there is nothing more pop art than the bottom of a Louboutin.
